Make a Difference!
Every Friday, University Temple and ROOTS (Rising Out of the Shadows) host the University Temple Thrift Store and Friday Feast. Both of these benefit homeless and low-income individuals here in the U District.
The Thrift Store is open from 2-5pm, providing clothes, house wares, linens, small appliances, books and miscellaneous items at minimal prices (or free if indicated), in a safe, caring environment where mutual respect and dignity are highly valued.
Friday Feast begins at 6pm. This meal, which is a free meal for everyone, has been operated thanks to volunteers since 1999. Friday Feast serves between 150 and 200 homeless and low-income individuals every week and runs almost entirely on donated materials and volunteer labor. Because of our location in the heart of the U District, Friday Feast is one of the most utilized soup kitchens for those in need. Real Change has called us “The best of all soup kitchens!”
On Saturdays, we host Teen Feed, a free meal program for homeless youth. Teen Feed works with the community to offer support to meet basic needs, build strong relationships, and ally with homeless youth as they meet their future off the streets. The Teen Feed Meal Program serves a hot, nutritious meal every night of the year in various University District faith community facilities. Here at U Temple, we host it on Saturday nights. If you’re interested in volunteering, see their website for more information.
We welcome new volunteers and donations! Have questions? Please contact the church office at (206) 632-5163 or via email at office@utemple.org.
