What We Believe

University Temple works hard to nurture God’s people for the long-haul even as we fully commit to the intensity of our present moment.  We are alive and engaged with the spiritual, political, cultural and economic issues of our time.  We actively engage our Biblical spirituality, expansive, generous and liberal, with others who are seeking to assist God in the care of creation. We believe we are forward-looking and focused on God’s great work of redemption.

University Temple is a place where people are touched by God’s grace. It is here that we grow deep roots in the same faith that Jesus had.  It is here that we receive the empowering Spirit of God, and work to use it for social justice in our community. And it is here that we learn the great mystery of our holy calling; that we ourselves are the risen Body of Christ, an ongoing pouring forth of God’s activity in the world.

We at U Temple believe that all are called to God’s table and that we are all God’s children.  We believe that together we can work with the Spirit of God for great change in the world. We are a community of affection and encouragement, open to diversity and always looking to practice God’s justice and mercy in the world.  From this strength we leave the sanctuary to create ministry on the streets. We are called to follow the vision and values of Jesus — a life of great joy and justice.

As a Reconciling Congregation, we welcome and affirm all people inclusive of race, nationality, age, gender, gender identity, marital status, sexual orientation, physical ability, mental ability, economic or educational class.  All of us are blessed and loved by God.
